PGA Q-School: First Stage

Mike Van Sickle continues his quest for a Tour card at a PGA Q-School First Stage qualifier in Valdosta, Ga. Van Sickle will play four rounds, Oct. 27-30, at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club, one of 11 First Stage sites across the country.

The former Marquette all-American has been paired with Pat Grady and Carlos Sainz for the first two rounds of the stroke play event with an opening round tee time set for 9:40 a.m. ET, Wednesday, Oct. 27.

Van Sickle won a Pre-Qualifying tournament in Lincoln, Neb., back in September, which earned him the right to advance through to the First Stage.

  3. So Georgia it is again, for clutch Mike. Any insight as to why he picked Georgia again? Better grass? Closer to his dream of one day playing at Augusta?!? Also, who is caddying for Mike during the stages?

  4. I haven't been to blogspot for awhile but thought I would check in to see what is new with Mike. Kind of disappointed that there hasn't been many updates. Are you still updating this site Luke? Fill us in! Looks like he is on to stage 2. What else is new with him? Playing in any other tournaments? Working anywhere? Sign on with anyone...TaylorMade? Anyone have any insight? If so, please post a comment. If you read this Mike, good luck in stage 2.

  5. Thanks for the well wishes guys! Picked Georgia twice just to stay in the same area. Before both the first and second stages I've been keeping the game tuned in Hilton Head at Colleton River CC... No tournaments going on besides Q School... haven't officially signed on with anyone yet, but we'll keep you posted... my friend from Pittsbugh who I grew up golfing with is on the bag for Q School, he played for Villanova, in his previous 3 loopings I won 2 state opens and a state am, so we have a pretty good track record and we're hoping to keep that going! For those of you in Milwaukee... stay warm!

  6. Thanks for the insight MVS. Glad to hear things are going well for you. Rickie the Real Deal is having quite the success out there (I don't really care for that hat he is sporting). Capitalizing on his opportunity. He may get a free pass all the way. Hopefully you will take advantage of your opportunity. How is that short game coming along? That was one area you and your college golf coach thought room for improvement existed. Still putting with the "Claw"? Keep us posted on what is going on. God Bless.

  7. Cool. Thanks for the reply clutch Mike. Now this is what a blog is all about. Insight, insight, insight! Not so fast, Dan. The Real Deal had some problems today. It takes 4 rounds to tango with the big boys. Good times at Marquette right now. Marquette bball is beginning, Buzz is the man, and clutch Mike continues his quest next week. Will there be any tweeting from Georgia next week (a la Stewart Cink - a frequent tweeter on the tour. He is a Georgia boy so maybe there can be some tweeting in honor of him)?

  8. Tough first round for MVS. Looks like the putter may have been a little off, based on the scorecard. But there's a lot of golf left and we all know that Mike can take it low! Good luck in the rounds ahead.
