Not much new this last week… I've mostly just been staying the course with my progress.  I'm continuing my 4-day a week workouts at ESI.  They are going really well and my strength has visably increased.  Not only that, but my back pains have decreased dramatically as well.  I was able to see the chiropractor there today.  He's been gone for over a week to tend to some of his players that were at

My trip to Chicago and Milwaukee was a lot of fun, despite the 6 inches of snow that fell as soon as I got to Chicago.  It was an easy drive there, except for the last 30 minutes when the snow started to fall.  My girlfriend Kristine accompanied me on the trip and the first stop was lunch at Gino's East Pizza.  In response to an earlier post, Ghiradino's is probably better, but it was still good.

We went back to Mountain Shadows this morning, the cool par 3 course, well it has two par-4s, but it's in really good condition.  When we checked in, I noticed that they had their course record scorecards sitting in the pro-shop.  Three guys had shot 48, or 8-under, in the course's history.  I thought, 8-under? Today was the practice round of the Desert Marlin and my dad and I didn't quite score as well as we would have hoped.  Not a lot of putts dropped as we got used to the greens at Grayhawk and we didn't take care of the par-5s.  We put up a best ball 70.  But we did get to play with Ricky Barnes and his brother Andy, who is an assistant coach at Arizona.  It's always a great experience to play with

Today was the Mylan Classic Monday qualifier at Green Oaks in the Pittsburgh area. It's a par 70, 6400 yard course, who's greens consistently run at about 14. The pins today were in some really difficult spots, and scores showed. I played fantastic for 12 holes, and my only hiccups were a pair of 5 foot birdie putts that I didn't make. I played quite solidly for 34 of the 36 holes in this week's West Penn Open. I didn't hit it as well the final round, but was still hitting it decently well and managed the course well. I was -3 on the day heading into 16, and was -4 overall for the tournament. I played my second practice round in two days today. I played Southern Pines GC yesterday, and played at Pine Needles today. It was your typical practice round day until I reached the par 3, 13th. I've spent the last few days resting, getting work done on my arm/wrist by Dr. Jason Loth, and ultimately healing up. Both Carson and Jason were pretty shocked at how tight and locked up my left forearm and wrist were, however, with just a few sessions it seems to be getting better. The sharp pain that I was getting is gone, and I'm only experiencing some achey, fatigued, soreness if anything.

It's been a few days as my father and I enjoy the somewhat warm Scottsdale weather. My dad flew in about a week ago to prepare for our week at the Desert Marlin at Greyhawk. Pretty disappointing day yesterday, because I wound up missing the cut by one. Still, there was a lot of positives that came out of the last two days. Well, last week certainly didn't go quite as I had planned. I really struck the ball well today, so much so that at one point I said to Peter Malnati, "It's really a shame I'm not in a Tour event this week." to which he agreed. Well, came up a bit short at the Louisiana qualifier. Took 67 to get in under windy conditions and I just didn't hit it well enough. Short game was good though, kept me in contention for a while. I'm in Orlando for a couple days of practice, then I'm headed to Del Ray Beach to watch the MU golf team play in a tournament. I think having my presence there might give them some good vibes... haha

My time in Scottsdale for the moment has come to a close. After a 20+ hour drive from Scottsdale, I have arrived in Lafayette, Louisiana to compete in the Monday qualifier for the Louisiana Open (a Nationwide Tour event). I played a practice round today at the Wetlands GC where my qualifier for 7 spots will take place. There are roughly 80 guys vouching for those spots in the tournament. A

After a promising 69 in the first round last week, severe wind and a cold putter in round 2 led to a missed cut. However, I'm playing another Gateway Tour event that begins tomorrow, so I don't have to wait too long for a shot at some redemption. I'm teeing off at 11am EST at Papago Golf Course. Signed up for my first Gateway Tour event of the year and it begins tomorrow at Southern Dunes. After a month of solid practice and play, I feel great about my game and am looking forward to playing in some competitive events. Today Ted Gray and I played our first round match of the Phoenix Fourball at FireRock CC, earning a 4 & 3 victory. Although I got off to a sluggish start, Ted was ready to go, birdieing 2 of the first 3 holes, putting us 2 up. I've just signed up for my first tournament of 2010, and although it's not on Tour, it's going to be a fun one. While practicing out at The Golf Club Scottsdale I ran into Big East Champion Ted Gray, my former teammate. He too is out at GCS and giving the golf route a roll. Hey everyone, Mike Van Sickle here. I'm going to be taking over updating the site from now on. A few things have happened since making it through First Stage. Unfortunately my putter went a little cold out at Callaway Gardens in Georgia for the Second Stage of Q-School and I came up a bit short.
